Fourteen partners across the manufacturing value chain

System manufacturers, subsystem and component suppliers, digital solution and service providers, and research and test-infrastructure organisations, coordinated by Chalmers through the Wingquist Laboratory.

Who does what

Industrial partners own the needs: they define the cases, priorities and success criteria and provide the data and test environments. Solution providers turn results into supported tools. Research organisations bring the methods and the laboratories. Together they cover aerospace, automotive, defence, construction, energy, equipment, IT, software and engineering.

System manufacturers

  • Trucks, and construction equipment through Volvo Construction Equipment. Cases on modular design, robustness, connected products, digital twins and automated processes.

  • Aerospace and defence. Leads the scale-up work package and represents Saab on the Wingquist Laboratory board. Cases on robustness and layout planning.

  • Trucks and buses. Cases on interactive layout planning.

Subsystem and component manufacturers

  • Automotive safety systems. Cases on modular design from the supplier's side, occupant safety and automated processes.

  • Aero-engine structures and components. Cases on repair and remanufacturing that keep material in use.

  • Energy system components and subsystems. Cases on automated industrial processes.

Digital solutions, development and service providers

  • Physical, electrical and software vehicle technology. Provides the Hugo test vessel as a test and demonstration platform.

  • Products and advanced services for wireless connectivity and AI.

  • Tools for production simulation and product realisation modelling.

  • Digital engineering services, and course material for the Learning Lab.

  • Tools for robust design and geometry assurance.

Research and digital test infrastructure

  • Coordinator. The Wingquist Laboratory groups, the CASE laboratory, Chalmers eCommons, and the departments of Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering.

  • Applied mathematics for industry, including production simulation and layout planning.

  • RISE AstaZero

Test environment for connected and autonomous vehicles, with 5G coverage, for field testing and demonstrations.

Not a partner? There are four ways in.

The feasibility study mobilised more than 25 organisations beyond the consortium, and the project keeps welcoming industrial actors at all tier levels, providers of digital infrastructure technology, researchers and students.

  • Bring a case

Industrial companies can bring a case to a track, take part in learning events and demonstrations, or prepare to join Phase 2 from 2029.

  • Build the tools

Solution providers can help translate results into supported, commercial tools and shape the roadmap and standardisation work.

  • Research with us

Visiting professorships, exchange periods and doctoral training with international partners are part of the plan.

  • Study with us

Master's thesis projects with industry, and PhD positions across the Wingquist Laboratory groups.

How the consortium is governed

  • Vinnova and the Advanced Digitalisation programme

    Funder. Receives periodic progress reports.

  • Project Board

All partners. Overall responsibility for the project and the consortium contract. Meets three times during the project.

  • Steering Group

Elected by the Project Board. Meets two to three times a year.

  • Project leader

Ola Isaksson, Chalmers, supported by a project coordinator.

  • Management team

Project leader and the six work package leaders. Meets monthly.

  • Advisory group

International experts on industry, digital infrastructure technology and sociotechnical transformation. Meets once a year and delivers a written report.

The work packages and their leaders

Twenty-five years of Wingquist Laboratory research

DRIVE PR is led by senior members of the Wingquist Laboratory at Chalmers, which for more than two decades has developed the virtual and digital modelling and simulation methods that Swedish industry uses to improve its competitiveness. The laboratory's board served as steering group for the feasibility study, and its network connects industrial partners, research institutes and solution providers. The project also works as a collaboration platform and knowledge hub for that network.
